Life Is But A Dream
“Life is but a dream.” Seems like a fairytale tagline, but what does it really mean?
Life is a continuous movement through 3 states of consciousness: the awakened state, the dream state, and deep sleep. In each phase, consciousness creates a world that appears to be absolute reality. In the awakened state, the individual perceives their surroundings as real. They use their perceptions, actions, and bodies to reinforce their reality. This world only exists for the awakened while the other two worlds are seen as mere illusions. Upon closing the eyes to rest, the entire waking world disappears and consciousness moves into the dream state.
While in the dream, the “dreamer” treats the dreamscape world as real and the waking world an illusion. Dreams consist of personalities in thoughts, emotions, and desires. It has its own laws of nature, logic, and functions that don't exist in the awakened state. Dreams and Nightmares seem so vivid and real that they affect our emotions and thoughts because the dreamer believes they are real.
Have you ever realized when you were in a dream and was able to influence the sequence of events? For years I suffered from nightmares until I learned to recognize when I was in a dream. With such a realization, I could influence my environment and control my behavior. For example, in every dream I can fly. So once I realize I am in a dream, I gain the ability to fly which has helped me recover from years of nightmares.
The moment consciousness passes into deep sleep, the dream world fades away. In the deep-sleep state of consciousness there is nothingness. The “sleeper” enjoys freedom from thoughts, desires, and actions. This is the seed state of consciousness. It is said that God created the world out of nothingness. From the emptiness of deep sleep births the awakened consciousness and all the personalities contained.
If in the dream state, we can gain control over our actions and influence our surroundings, then can our consciousness do the same in the awakened state? Recognize that you hold the power to shift your reality. Fear doesn't have to exist. Thoughts of limitations and lack doesn't have to be your reality. Rather than believe in the impossibilities, can we expand and see into the opportunities? Life is but a dream. Can you envision the life you dreams and allow the outer world to shift into a new reality?
